TWO MORE CLASSIC MODERNIST TEAPOTS – Lucie Rie and Walter Gropius

A couple more Modernist teapots for the notebook.

This Lucie Rie coffee pot is more or less the same as the one posted earlier, from the Craft Study Centre collection at Farnham. The Farnham one is part of a set made for Robin Tanner around 1955. This one presumably dates from the same time. It is the opposite colour – black body and white detail on the lid. The form is better, sharper and firmer; less sagging.

Sticking with the same point this is the white version of the TAC teapot designed by Walter Gropius for Rosenthal Studio Linie in 1969. I am not sure which I prefer. The black on has both matt and gloss areas emphasising the distinction between the main forms. In white it is simpler and less fussy.
