The first cloam oven is complete and ready for firing. It’s a small one – roughly 50cm deep. I followed the Portuguese potters’ method (see video below) and started with a slab beaten out onto a sanded batt. The walls were then built in three stages from long slabs and finally thick coils. The door was reinforced around it edges, handled and then cut out when the oven was leather-hard.
