The Restoration of the Queens Road Gas Kiln

We’re very excited this week. After months out of action our gas kiln is almost ready for firing.

The kiln is 36 years old, built by Kilns and Furnaces on site in 1978 and is being subjected to a major overhaul. The kiln log hasn’t been kept up consistently but it has done approximately 1000 stoneware firing. Despite love and care, for various reasons it failed its gas safety tests and crumbling brickwork around the burners and a rotting flue put it out of action. It has been a very slow process we are almost there.
